Bulbrokers - Daily FX Analysis - Oct 9, 2008 Oct 09, 2008, 15:20 CET | Broker’s Report | SeeNews The Coordinated Interest Rate Cuts Fail To Recover OptimismThe yen rallied broadly onWednesday, hitting its highest level in three years against the euro, on fears that the coordinated central bank rate cuts may not be sufficient to stop the heaviest financial crisis since 1930s. The measurement was followed by new decline of the equity markets and the risk of aversion remained, which supported the yen. The central banks lowered their interest rates by 50 basis points and in USA they reached 1.5%, in Europe 3.75% and in UK 4.5%. The negative sentiment weighed on the market and the volatility during the day was extremely high. The euro fell against the yen to 134.20 yen – its lowest level since August 2005. The dollar also retreated against the Japanese currency to 99.81 yen. The greenback remained weaker against the major currencies, but later managed to recover partially from its losses. Analyst forecast the dollar will likely remain stable due to expectations that the int erest rates outside US will fall at a faster pace. The euro fell against the dollar to 1,3682, while the American currency reached 5 year highs against the high-yielding Australian and New Zealand dollars. link

Bulbrokers - Stock Market Daily Review - Oct 9, 2008 Oct 09, 2008, 15:19 CET | Broker’s Report | SeeNews Stocks continue to decline, despite the coordinated rate cutsThe U.S. stock market traded in an extremely volatile manner after the global central banks decided that economic risks outweighed inflation risks, prompting a coordinated rate cut in key lending rates. The Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, the Swiss National Bank, the Bank of Canada, and the Sveriges Riksbank (the Swedish central bank) made an emergency intermeeting coordinated 50 basis point rate cut. The Bank of Japan expressed support for the coordinated effort (its rate is already at only 0.5%). China cut its rate by 27 basis points. The coordinated move came after a global equity sell-off on continued economic concerns as credit markets remained extremely tight.Alcoa Inc. fell 12%to $14.60 and dropped 20% earlier in the biggest intraday loss since October 1987. The largest U.S. aluminum producer reported third-quarter profit that trailed analysts’ estimates by 28%, according to B loomberg. Elana - BSE Highlights - Oct 9, 2008 Oct 09, 2008, 12:50 CET | Broker’s Report | SeeNews The stock market opened firmly on the upside on Thursday, following the green wave in Europe. Speculators supported the shares of the battered blue chips. This was an easy task due to the broad spreads and thin sell orders. Liquid positions gained ground but bank shares changed hands in thin volumes, which is not short term positive. Banks joined the rally as the fresh rate cuts in USA and Europe supported the positive market bias. However, the news from international banks are grim and investors remain cautious toward the sector. For the moment, the rising prices will ease the pressure on speculators that use repo-deals. The main index SOFIX was 5.48% higher an hour before the market close. link
