FOREIGN CURRENCY RESERVES INCREASED BY 1.56% IN Q1

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports that by the state of March 31 foreign currency reserves accounted for $1.491 billion. This rate exceeds the rates of December 31, 2008 by 1.56%.

FIVE COUNTRIES ACCOUNTED FOR 81.6% OF WINE EXPORT IN 2008

Georgian Statistics Department reports that wine export accounted for $36.9 million (10.6 million l) in 2008. At that, five countries accounted for 81.6%: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine.

FIVE COUNTRIES ACCOUNTED FOR 98.8% OF WHEAT FLOUR IMPORT

Georgian Statistics Department reports that wheat import amounted to $74.5 million (163,693 t) in 2008. Out of total figure, five countries accounted for 98.8%: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.

THE US ACCOUNTED FOR ALMOST WHOLE GEORGIAN HONEY EXPORT IN 2008

Georgian Statistics Department reports that honey export totaled to $4,160 (641 kg) in 2008. Honey was exported to the US and Japan.

USAID TO ASSIST FARMERS IN CONFLICT ZONE AND IDPS WITH AGRARIAN PRODUCTION

Representation of US Agency for International Development (USAID) reports that farmers in the conflict zone (Shida Kartli region) and families, expelled from villages in this zone during August war, will be provided by spring agrarian production. Namely, it is planned to provide them with corn seeds and fertilizers, servicing with farm machinery, while those farmers, who have orchards, will be provided with pesticides.

236,046 LARI WAS MOBILIZED FROM SOLD MINING LICENSES

Georgian Economic Development Ministry announced that 236,046 lari was mobilized in total from 14 mining licenses, sold at yesterday’s auction. 21 licenses were auctioned in total with total starting price of 310,458 lari.

LLC GEORGIAN URBAN ENERGY TO START PARAVANHES CONSTRUCTION IN SUMMER

Georgian Energy Ministry announced that contract was signed today with LLC Georgian Urban Energy on construction of ParavanHES (Paravani hydroelectric station). Construction of 78-MW HES should start in summer this year.

BANK CONSTANTA HAD LOSSES OF 3.9M LARI LAST YEAR

According to pre-audit data of bank Constanta, the bank fixed losses of 3.9 million lari by the state of December 31, 2008. Bank’s total assets made up 69.8 million lari.

PROGRESS BANK FINISHED THE YEAR 2008 WITH 1.09M LARI LOSSES

According to pre-audit data of Progress Bank, the bank fixed 1.09 million lari losses by the state of December 31, 2008. Volume of bank’s total assets made up 12.7 million lari.

LLC TKBILI KVEKANA TO PRODUCE NEW KINDS OF EASTER AND DIETETIC CAKES

The company is focused on Easter cakes production at this stage, LLC Tkbili Kvekana (Sweet Country) told Sarke. Equipment was specially brought from Italy with these aims.

As a result of the auction, held in Tbilisi City Hall these days, LLC Outdoor.ge and LLC Magi Style Media got permissions on placement of outdoor advertisements in Tbilisi. Duration of permissions is 12 years.
