Bulbrokers - Daily FX Analysis - July 18, 2008 Jul 18, 2008, 11:03 CET | Broker’s Report | SeeNews US dollar rose against the majors on oil pull back and strong bank reportsThe US dollar rose against the major currencies on Wednesday and moved away from a record low against the euro. The dollar was supported mainly by a slide in oil prices and surprisingly strong earnings at Wells Fargo & Co that reduced the fears about the US economy and the financial sector. Meanwhile, the US consumer prices rose last month at their fastest rate since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The data released during the day saw June consumer price inflation rise 1.1% m/m, while core inflation raised 0.3% m/m. On an annualized basis, overall inflation is up 5.0% y/y and core inflation is up 2.4% y/y. The industrial production in June is up 0.5% while capacity utilization improved to 79.9%. In the Eurozone news, EMU-15 June CPI jumped to 4.0% from 3.7% in May, far above the ECB’s 2.0% ceiling target. The yen and the pound also deprecated versus the US dollar as Bank of Japan downgraded its views on ex ports, production and housing investment overnight and the Japanese media reported the government is likely to reduce its economic growth forecast for the current fiscal year to March 2009 to 1.3% or lower from last year’s 2.0% estimate. The data released in the UK saw the June jobseekers rose to 15.5 thousand, the largest rise since December 1992. Average salary including bonuses rose 3.8% in the three months to May, down from 3.9% in the three months to April. link

The huge negative moves from Wednesday were partially offset as the session started with quite an enthusiasm and the most liquid names quickly advanced. Later sellers appeared again and SOFIX closed with “only” 1.27% gain to 1035.68 bps. The major moves came from Chimimport (6C4, BGN 7.92, +3.19%) and Industrial Holding Bulgaria (4ID, BGN 6.10, +4.26%). Lead and Zink Complex (5OTZ) remained in the red zone as only 1 695 shares were enough to push the price down to BGN 26.50 (-5.36%). BG40 moved 1.04% up to 261.41 bps after the significant jump from Odessos Shiprepair Yard (5ODE, BGN 217.65, +6.17%) and the modest support from Fazerles (4F6, BGN 137.003, +1.48%). Investors are speculating that Croatian Government might reach a deal today regarding the location of future LNG terminal which might be located on Dioki’s land. Even though the BDI index continues to fall, domestic shipping companies increased their MkCap today with Dubrovnik based Atlantska plovidba (ATPL-R-A) adding 2,6%, Pula based Uljanik plovidba (ULPL-R-A) increased by 2,9%, while Split based Jadroplov (JDPL-R-A) rocketed 6,7% to end at HRK 529. link
