45th Munich Security Conference
On 6-7 February, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer participated in the Munich Security Conference, which brings together leading international figures to discuss security issues every year at this time. The Secretary General delivered a speech focusing on Russia, transatlantic burden sharing, and the future of NATO.

Tajik President visits NATO Headquarters
The President of Tajikistan, Mr. Emomali Rahmon, paid a visit to NATO Headquarters on 11 February, and met with Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. They discussed specific areas of cooperation which could be deepened including in the context of the IPAP (Individual Partnership Action Plan).

The eleventh NATO Winter Academy took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from 2 to 7 February, and focused on the theme “NATO at 60 – from experience to initiative”.

NATO Headquarters is hosting a photo exhibition on Cracow from 11 to 18 February, prior to the next informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers to be held in this ancient Polish city on 19-20 February.

Think-tanks to discuss future of NATO in Cracow
The Institute of Strategic Studies, in co-operation with NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division, will host a Forum on Euroatlantic Security entitled, “NATO before the Jubilee Summit – Does the Alliance Need a New Strategic Concept?” Discussions will be held on the margins of the next informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers, to be held in the ancient city of Cracow, Poland on 19-20 February.

NATO recognized for modernizing operations
Senior NATO official Dag Wilhelmsen, General Manager of the NATO Consultation, Command and Control (NC3A), received the Arthur K. Cebrowski Award on January 28, for the development and evolution of networked-enabled operations, helping to better coordinate actions and reduce casualties.
