Council of the European Union: EU HR Javier SOLANA met Gjorge Ivanov, President of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) met today Gjorge IVANOV, President of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The President was accompanied by Prime Minister Nikola GRUEVSKI.

Mr Solana was pleased to receive President Ivanov on his first day of office following his inauguration yesterday in Skopje. Mr Solana underlined the importance of the fact that the President chose Brussels for his first foreign trip. The High Representative welcomed this message from the President that EU integration is the first priority for the country and commended the solid efforts already made to get closer to the EU. Mr Solana reiterated his support and encouragement to continue the same way. Mr Solana also encouraged all stakeholders to spare no effort to rapidly find a solution for the name issue.
