TAJIKISTAN - Tajik and Afghan Border Guards Train at IOM Centre - Nine Afghan National Border Police officers and five Tajik Border Force officers have successfully completed a ten-day training in "Border and Immigration Control" at an IOM-established training centre in Badakhshan province bordering Afghanistan.
The training, which was funded by the US Government’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, took place at the Khorog Training Centre for Border Guards, which was established by IOM in 2006.
The joint training was designed to enhance security along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border by improving the professional knowledge and skills of officers working at border crossing points in Badakhshan.
It included the basics of border security, cross border cooperation, visa policy, detection of fraudulent documents and combating human trafficking.
The Khorog centre, which was established with funding from the US State Department, operates under the supervision of the Tajik State Border Guards Committee and can accommodate up to 15 live-in students.
It has a staff of six professional trainers and offers training to both Tajik and Afghan border guards in practical subjects including border control, document inspection, migration law, human rights, computer studies and English.
