The British Embassy and demosEUROPA - Centre for European Strategy cordially invite you to a major speech on the future agenda of the European Union that will be delivered by David Miliband, the British Foreign Secretary on 23 June 2009. In the context of the recent elections, Mr Miliband will explore the challenges facing the Union and how it should respond to these. Mr. Miliband will take questions after his speech. His intervention and the discussion will be in English.

David Miliband is a distinguished British and European politician. He was Head of Policy in the Labour Party under the leadership of Tony Blair and shaped the Party’s manifesto prior to its electoral success in 1997. He was then Head of Prime Minister’s Policy Unit 1997-2001. He was elected Member of Parliament for the north-east England seat of South Shields. He then served as Junior Minister in the Department of Education and Skills and became Environment Secretary, making climate change one of the main priorities of British policy. He became Foreign Secretary in June 2007 and is now one of the leading European politicians shaping the future of EU foreign policy.
