Bulgarian National Statistical Institute - Population and Demographic Processes - 2008
Mar 31, 2009, 08:54 CET | State Agencies Reports | SeeNews
Positive tendencies observed in the basic demographic development indicators during the last years continue in 2008. There is a delay in the rates of population decrease mainly due to the improved indicators on natural population movement, increased life expectancy and decreased influence of international migration. Main problem of the country demographic development is the still high mortality level, relatively lower life expectancy compared to the other European countries, as well as the negative net international migration. Nevertheless, the positive tendencies observed in the demographic development during the last years are a good basis for overcoming of the serious demographic crisis passed during the last decade of previous century.

INDUSTRY REPORT: Romania’s Retail Market in 2007 – Part I
Mar 31, 2009, 13:36 CET | Story | AII Data Processing Ltd
Romania boasts over 22 million consumers and a rising average purchasing power. According to Eurostat data in 2006 average household consumption in Romania stood at 1,700 euro at constant prices, with expectations for it to rise to 2,100 euro in 2008. Even though consumption is far lower than the European Union average, after joining the union Romania became an attractive market for many producers and fast moving consumer goods traders. After stepping on the central European market and given the oversupply at a local level, western investors set their sights on the new member state, seeing it as a good market expansion opportunity.
