BANKING CARDS’ TRANSACTIONS INCREASED DURING A YEAR BY 55.7%, VOLUME – BY 26.1%
According to the 1st quarter data of National Bank of Georgia (NBG), 3.49 million transactions have been made through plastic cards, issued by Georgian banks. The mentioned figure is almost by 55.7% more than for the same period of 2008.
MERAB KAKULIA: SIGNS OF BANKING CRISIS ARE NOT FIXED IN GEORGIA TODAY, BUT WE CAN SEE CREDIT DEPRESSION
According to Merab Kakulia, senior expert of Georgian-European Policy and Legal Advice Centre (GEPLAC), there are no signs of banking crisis in Georgia today. However, credit depression is obvious, which followed 2-year credit boom.

UNITED TELECOM LOWERS FEE FOR SWITCHING IN WIRELESS NETWORK
JSC United Telecom announced that from June 1 tariffs for wireless phone service have reduced in Tbilisi as well as in regions. Namely, Tbilisi subscribers can switch in wireless network for 100 lari (instead of 150), out of which 20 lari will be deposited on a client’s account as advance.
RECONSTRUCTION OF GENERAL POST OFFICE TO START IN THE END OF 2009
Tengiz Lomitashvili, marketing manager of development company Development Solutions, says that reconstruction of the General Post Office in Tbilisi (Rustaveli Ave. 31) will start in the end of 2009 and will last until 2011.
