NEW HEAD OF NBG WILL START WORKING FROM MONDAY

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announced that its new president, Giorgi Kadagidze, will start working from Monday. The NBG noted that Georgian President signed the order about Kadagidze’s appointment yesterday.

ENERGY MINISTRY TO PAY MAIN ATTENTION TO CONSTRUCTION OF TRANSMISSION FACILITIES

The main priority of Georgian Energy Ministry will become construction of new high-voltage transmission lines, which should connect Georgian energy system with ones of the neighboring countries. The matter concerns Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

REGISTRATION OF DRUGS, REGISTERED IN EU, WILL NOT BE REQUIRED IN GEORGIA

According to draft amendments to the law “On Drugs and Pharmaceutical Activity”, no registration is required in Georgia for any medicine, which is already registered in EU. The government approved the draft amendments at yesterday’s meeting.

11.75M LARI IS ALLOTTED TO PROGRAM OF AFFORDABLE MEDICAL INSURANCE

Alexander Kvitashvili, Georgian Labor, Health and Social Welfare Minister, announced that the budget envisages 11.75 million lari at this stage for program of affordable medical insurance. In total, the mentioned program will be funded with 15 million lari.

WORKS ON AMENDMENTS TO LAW “ON STATE REGISTER” STILL LAST

According to the deputy Murtaz Zodelava, works on amendments to the law “On State Register” still last. He told Sarke that “attitude has changed”, but refrained from making further comments at this stage.

25.5M LARI IS ENVISAGED FOR REHABILITATION OF OLD BATUMI

Ajara government reported that Batumi City Hall allotted 25.5 million lari for rehabilitation of the old part of Batumi. Works should be finished in the end of the current year.

GERMANY TO ALLOT OVER 6M EUR FOR CLIMATE PROTECTION PROJECTS IN SOUTH CAUCASUS

German embassy in Georgia reports that Germany will allot over 6 million EUR to implement climate protection projects in South Caucasus. The mentioned projects will be held in terms of the international initiative on climate protection.

TBC BANK IS GOING TO OPEN 5 BRANCHES IN FIRST HALF OF 2009

As TBC Bank told Sarke, the bank plans to open 5 new branches and service-centers in the first half of 2009. Two branches have been already opened: one in Batumi (January), the other in Tbilisi (Varketili district) – yesterday.

EVGENY NEMERINSKY BECAME THE CHAIRMAN OF VTB BANK GEORGIA’S SUPERVISORY BOARD

VTB Bank Georgia told Sarke that sitting of the supervisory board was held these days, where Evgeny Nemerinsky was elected the chairman of the board. Nemerinsky was director general of VTB Bank Georgia in 2007-2008.

REHABILITATION OF INTERNAL ROADS TO START IN TETRITSKARO

Gamgeoba (local administration) of Tetritskaro announced a tender on rehabilitation of roads in city of Tetritskaro and settlement of Manglisi. The matter concerns rehabilitation of 1.1 km in total.
