POSITION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR INTRODUCED IN NBG

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports that Giorgi Melashvili started his activity as NBG executive director yesterday. The mentioned post was introduced in NBG by the order of NBG president Giorgi Kadagidze.

GTBCI DROPPED BY 36.4% IN Q1

Company Galt&Taggart Securities reports that by the state of March 31, Galt&Taggart Blue Chip Index (GTBCI, local blue chip index) made up 125.06 (in lari). This rate is less by 36.4% compared with the beginning of the year and is less by 84.5% compared with the same period of 2008 (806.88).

RECOMMENDATIONS OF EXPERTS ON CURRENT ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL RISKS

Out of the dangers, which are expected current year in Georgia, experts single out slowdown of economic growth, reduction or even cancellation of investment flows and transfers, growth of foreign debt, risks in banking sector. Namely, volume of net transfers is expected to be reduced in 2009, which brings great problems to the national currency, population and banking sector.

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports that remittances from 5 countries amounted to $134.4 million, accounting for 81.9% of total sum, which was transferred to Georgia through various electronic remittances’ systems (Western Union, Anelik, Caucasus Express, MoneyGram, etc.) in January-March. These countries are Russia, the US, Ukraine, Italy and Greece.

These countries are Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, the US and Germany.

THREE TYPES OF INSURANCE ACCOUNTED FOR 84.1% OF TOTAL PREMIUM ATTRACTED IN Q1

According to Financial Supervision Agency, 3 types of insurance accounted for 84% of total premium, attracted in January-March. That was medical insurance, property insurance and insurance of vehicles.

NUMBER OF PLASTIC CARDS REDUCED FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports that total number of banking cards in circulation made up 3.4 million, which is less by 4.5% compared with the beginning of the year. Debit cards account for 88.02% of the total number, credit cards – 11.98%.

NUMBER OF ATMS INCREASED BY 31 UNITS FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports that total number of ATMs in Georgia made up 1,375 by the state of March 31, i.e. their number increased by 31 units from the beginning of the year (2.31% growth). Number of POS terminals in trade and service outlets made up 6,176, increasing by 88 units (1.45% growth).

IOLI GROUP TO LAUNCH DISTILLERY AT FULL CAPACITY AFTER EASTER

Ioli Group will launch its distillery at full capacity after Orthodox Easter, distillery’s director Giorgi Shanidze told Sarke. Production will be envisaged for local market (including, for own production of the company) and will be exported as well.

Small LopotaHES was launched today in Kakheti (village Napareuli) in terms of USAID-funded program on rural energy development. Capacity of the HES makes up 2 MW.

TENDER TO REVEAL THE AUTHORIZED PERSON ON ORGANIZING AND HOLDING OF LOTTERIES

Georgian Finance Ministry announced a tender on selection of the legal entity, which will be authorized to organize and hold lotteries and other gamblings. The tender will be held on May 15 in the Ministry.

FOUR COMPANIES ARE INTERESTED WITH EXPENSES RECORDING FOR REPAIR WORKS IN NBG’S HEAD OFFICE

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) told Sarke that 4 companies are interested with preparation of the documentation for expenditures accounting on repair works in the head office of NBG. The two-stage tender was held yesterday.

REPAIR WORKS TO START IN THE OFFICES OF SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY

Social Service Agency announced a tender on repair works in its branches’offices. The tender, which includes 3 lots, will be held on May 7 in the Agency.

SIX COMPANIES ARE INTERESTED WITH REHABILITATION OF LOCAL ROADS IN OZURGETI

Gamgeoba (local administration) of Ozurgeti (Guria region) told Sarke that 6 companies expressed interest in implementation of rehabilitation works on local roads. The tender, which included 2 lots, was held yesterday.

LLC SPETSHYDROPROEKTI TO REPAIR WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM IN OZURGETI

Gamgeoba (local administration) of Ozurgeti (Guria region) told Sarke that LLC Spetshydroproekti (Special Hydro Project) will hold reparation works on water supply system. The LLC was rivaled on the tender by 2 companies.
