APPLIANCES ACCOUNTED FOR ONE THIRD OF IMPORT FROM FINLAND

Georgian Statistics Department reports that import from Finland amounted to $41.3 million in 2008, which is more by 9.7% compared with the same rates of 2007. Radio, TV and telephone appliances accounted for the greatest share of import (over 28%).

SAKARTVELOS BANKI ISSUED OVER 502,000 DEBIT CARDS

According to the year 2008 data of Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia), number of debit cards, issued by the bank, exceeds 502,000. The bank issues cards of VISA and MasterCard.

MAXIMALI OFFERS 4G WIRELESS INTERNET

Company Maximali reported that it has introduced 4G wireless internet, based on WiMAX technology. Coverage zone of Maximal includes Tbilisi (Vake, Rustaveli, Saburtalo and Avlabar districts), Tskneti, Rustavi, Poti and Batumi.

INCOMES OF JSC LIBERTY CONSUMER SHARPLY REDUCED

JSC Liberty Consumer (formerly Galt&Taggart Capital) reported reduction of 92% in consolidated incomes, down to $1.2 million (calculations are based on exchange rate 1.695 GEL/USD). Operating income has also reduced.

LLC Georgian Railway told Sarke that LLC Elmavamshenebeli (Tbilisi electric locomotive assembly plant) was selected as a contractor for electric locomotives’ repair. This company was the only one, which applied for the tender.

As LLC Georgian Railway told Sarke, LLC Caucasian Railway Network will lease 300 tank wagons of the Railway. This company was the only participant of the auction, the Railway said, noting only that the company is foreign.

PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT OF CONFLICT WILL BE DISCUSSED IN TBILISI IN THE END OF MARCH

On March 27, Business and Economy Center of the Parliament of Georgia and Association Peaceful and Business Caucasus will hold a conference in Tbilisi, where strategies of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali conflicts’ peaceful settlement will be discussed. As it was noted at today’s meeting of conference advisors’ board, the event should act as the first try of Georgian society to establish a single view on this issue.
