President Victor Yushchenko held a meeting with the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano.
During the meeting sides have discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, honoring victims of the Great Famine 1932-1933 in Ukraine, prospects of European and Euro-Atlantic integration before our country, consequences of Russian-Georgian conflict, etc.
President Yushchenko expressed satisfaction of bilateral relations’ development between Ukraine and Italy adding that there are many projects interesting for both sides to be implemented. Among these he named broadening of trade-economic cooperation.
Separately President Yushchenko brought up a subject of Ukrainian citizens staying in Italy saying that it is important that they were guaranteed legal employment and fulfillment of cultural needs.
Speaking about Ukraine’s foreign policy and about European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our country, President said that this course remains unchanged and thanked the Italian side for support of Ukraine at NATO Bucharest Summit.
President Napolitano from his part said his country perceives Ukraine “with great liking”. “It is a great nation with great historical achievements”, - he added.
President of Italy also stressed support to Ukraine in its aspiration to gain NATO MAP at December NATO Foreign Ministers’ Summit.
