The presentation of the latest HRC Memorial publications took place in the
Central House of Artists (Moscow) on December 1, 2010, within the scope of 12th International book fair "Non/fiction". Among presented books is
"Three years of "peace". Bulletins of HRC Memorial. Summer 2006-summer
2009", "Russia-Chechnya: the chain of mistakes and crimes ", "People live
here. Chechnya: chronicles of violence. Part 5 ". Also there was a
discussion on the topic The North Caucasus: years of peace, years of war.
What are the results?
The speakers were: Oleg Orlov (Chair of the Board of HRC Memorial, author of the books "Three years of "peace"…", "Russia-Chechnya: the chain of mistakes and crimes "), Alexander Cherkasov (member of the Board of HRC Memorial, author of the books "Three years of "peace"…", "Russia-Chechnya: the chain of mistakes and crimes "), Tat’yana Lokshina (deputy director of Human Rights Watch Moscow Office), Boris Dubin (sociologist, head of social-political department of Levada-Centre). The speakers told about the origin of conflicts in the North Caucasus, about complicated political situation in the region, problems of interaction between natives and authorities and how these issues are covered in the books. The experts also answered the questions of the audience.
The central topic of the discussion was mass violations of human rights in
the North Caucasus during two wars in Chechnya and counter-terror
operation in post-war time. According to the authors of the books, exactly
violation of human rights is the main obstacle of stabilization in the
region.
