Today news:

- Vietnam to attend 43rd annual meeting of ADB in Uzbekistan

The Prime Minister of Vietnam has agreed to send a Vietnamese delegation led by Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Van Giau to attend the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Development Bank (ADB).

- State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore to visit Uzbekistan

Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Singapore Zainul Abidin Rasheed will visit Uzbekistan from April 19-23.

- Bird flu, though largely contained, still poses global threat – FAO

Although concerted international action has successfully eliminated the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus from poultry in nearly all 63 countries infected by the world outbreak in 2006, it persists in five nations, posing a continuing threat to global animal and human health, a senior United Nations official warned on 16 April.

- Kazakhstan to boost gas transit to Russia on resumed supplies

Kazakhstan plans to ship 25 billion cubic meter of gas from Turkmenistan, holder of the world’s fourth-largest natural gas reserves, and Uzbekistan to Russia this year after a pipeline was reopened.

- Legendary show and exhibition about Tashkent in St. Petersburg

The Youth Theatre of Uzbekistan, with its Equus show, created with the support of the Fund Forum, participated in "Meetings in Russia", an International Festival of Russian Theatres of the CIS and Baltic States, hosted by St. Petersburg from 31 March to 9 April.

- US Ambassador visits ancient fortress and holy springs in Nurata

Taking advantage of the opportunity to travel across the great steppes of Central Asia, US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Richard Norland and his wife, Mary Hartnett, recently drove to the ancient holy town of Nurata.

- Moscow Dolphinarium performs in Tashkent

A tour of the Moscow Dolphinarium called "dolphin show" has been organized in the Tashkent State Circus from 17 April till 16 May.

- World Bank Country Manager: "Uzbekistan suffered the least from crisis in the region"

The World Bank Uzbekistan Country Manager Loup J. Brefort spoke at the International Scientific-Practical Conference on the "Effectiveness of the Anti-Crisis Program and Priorities of Post-Crisis Development" (in the case of Uzbekistan) in Tashkent on 12 April.

- Uzbek President to pay official visit to Russia on 19-20 April

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will pay an official visit to Russia on 19-20 April on the invitation of this country’s President Dmitriy Medvedev.

- Uzbekistan’s GDP grows 7.6% in 1Q 2010

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan held a session on 16 April to consider the results of the country’s socioeconomic development in the first quarter of 2010 and implementation of the tasks outlined by the President at the government’s meeting on 29 January.
