President of Azerbaijan visits NATO

The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited the Alliance’s Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday 29 April 2009. NATO Secretary General met with him bilaterally, before a meeting of the North Atlantic Council where the Azeri President addressed the Permanent Representatives of the 28 NATO member countries.

NATO extends counter-piracy mission

On Friday 24 April, NATO has decided to continue the counter piracy activities of Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) in the Gulf of Aden and in waters off the Horn of Africa after a short port visit to Karachi (Pakistan) from 26 to 27 April.

NATO and Partners share CBRN defence know-how

As part of Allied overall efforts against proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), NATO hosted a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence demonstration at Belgium’s Joint CBRN Centre in Jambes, Belgium, on 29 April.

Forging powerful bonds with Kosovo people

It’s been almost six months and the mandate of the Hellenic Battalion, deployed in the northern region of Kosovo, is coming to an end. Six months of commitment and sustained civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) have proved to be a strong element in the Battalion’s efforts to fulfill its mission under the KFOR umbrella.

NATO information jeep tours Latvian schools

From 30 March to 13 May, NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division is supporting a mobile information campaign – the “NATO jeep” - for school children in Latvia. The project aims at raising awareness of the Alliance in the country, five years after it became a NATO member.

$2.8 million canal project completed in Afghanistan

Joined by government and local leaders, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Nangarhar Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) celebrated the completion of the Grand Canal repair project during a ribbon cutting ceremony in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
