- NATO and Ukraine discussed defence reform

On 26 May 2010, the eighth Senior Level meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform (JWGDR) was held in Kyiv under the co-chairmanship of the First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Mr. Stepan Havrysh and the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning, Ambassador Jiří Šedivý.

In the margins of the Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence session, Ukraine and Turkey (as the facilitating NATO member) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on “Air Situation Data Exchange” (ASDE) on 5 May.

“Translating ‘integrity’ into Ukrainian is difficult,” explains Nataliya Altyntseva, a Captain in the Ukrainian Security Service who is coming to the end of a special six-month professional development traineeship at NATO Headquarters.

- NATO and Ukrainian experts discuss cyber defence

On 11-12 February 2010, cyber defence experts from Ukraine, NATO and Allied countries participated in the first NATO-Ukraine Expert Staff Talks on Cyber Defence in Kyiv. Held under the auspices of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Working Group on Defence Reform, the staff talks were co-organised by Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council and the NATO Liaison Office in Ukraine.

On behalf of NATO, I warmly congratulate Viktor Yanukovych on his election as President of Ukraine. The elections were free, fair and democratic, and an example for the region.

- Consultations with Ukraine kick-off ministerial meetings

The NATO-Ukraine Commission (NUC) meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers has opened a series of ministerial sessions at NATO HQ in Brussels on 3 December 2009.

- Ukrainian ship completes deployment with NATO’s Operation Active Endeavour

The corvette URS Ternopil returned today to national operational control after having completed a deployment to the Mediterranean during which the ship was assigned to Operation Active Endeavour (OAE), the NATO maritime contribution to the fight against terrorism.

- NATO’s New Strategic Concept

In the context of the New Strategic Concept, NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division has developed a dedicated web module including an online discussion forum, to engage with the online community and encourage them to share their views and opinions on the role of NATO in the 21st century.
