Deaf Children See School Remodeled for the Holidays
Various Moldovan donors pooled their resources this holiday season to give gifts to students at a special boarding school for deaf children in the village of Harbovat in the Calarasi region. The presents included a classroom specially equipped with 11 computers. Orange Moldova picked up the MDL-210,000 (approximately USD 20,000) tab for the present, inspiring Viorica-Cosmetics to spend MDL 60,000 (about USD 5,700) to repair the school’s concert hall.
UN Brings Holiday Cheer to Hundreds of Children
The UN Development Program (UNDP) Moldova mobilized members of the Global Impact Network during the holidays to provide gifts for 354 foster children, Info-Prim Neo reported. The children had to thank Moldova-Agroindbank, World Wide Aid and Cooperation Moldova, Business Club Timpul, Linella, Union Fenosa, EuroCredit Bank, Foto Rapid, Codru, Moldcell, Endava, Milenium Grup, Bioprotect, Total Leasing and a private individual for playing Santa Claus this year. Foster families are a new concept in Moldova as an alternative to traditional orphanages. Foster parents take into their home from 3 to 7 children. This number may include their biological children, as well. Parents that agree to become fosters are salaried, receive retirement benefits and are given daily stipends for utilities, coal and wood.
