Mikalai Statkevich, a political prisoner and presidential candidate, has been placed in a punishment cell in penal colony Nr17 in Shklou.

He is to spent three five days, but the prisoner does not rule out the period of “punishment” may be extended. He is now considered a “malicious offender” of prison rules.

Mikalai Statkevich’s relatives think the cause is publishing Mikalai Statkevich’s letters, which were sent from prison bypassing the prison administration.

The pressure may also be connected with the marriage of Mikalai Statkevich and Maryna Adamovich scheduled for December 20.

In spite of this, Mikalai was not allowed to make telephone calls.
