In order to make innovation work in Europe, the demand side of innovation should be revalued, both at the Member State and at the EU level. The crisis has created a double need to focus more on innovation as a potential source of future growth, and to cut on spending. If we add to this the "European paradox" of relatively low innovation outputs as compared to the inputs, it turns out that demand-oriented innovation policies are today both essential and especially attractive.
In a new demosEUROPA report, Paweł Zerka outlines his recommendations for a better and smarter use of demand-side innovation policies in Europe.
