International election observers in Azerbaijan to hold press conference on Monday

BAKU, 6 November 2010 - The international observers monitoring the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan will present their preliminary post-election statement at a news conference on Monday, 8 November, in Baku.

The international observation is a common endeavour involving the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the European Parliament (EP).

The preliminary statement will be delivered by Wolfgang Grossruck who leads the short-term OSCE observer mission and heads the OSCE PA delegation, followed by Paul Wille, Head of the PACE delegation, Anneli Jäätteenmaki, Head of the EP delegation, and Ambassador Audrey Glover, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR long-term election observation mission.

This common endeavour comprises a total of 406 observers from 42 countries, including 36 long-term observers from the OSCE/ODIHR, some 270 short-term observers seconded by participating States upon request by the OSCE/ODIHR, 51 parliamentarians and staff from the OSCE PA, 33 from the PACE, and 16 from the European Parliament.

Journalists are invited to attend the news conference on Monday, 8 November, at 14:30 at The Landmark, Rotunda, Nizami St. 90A, Baku.
