Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, met today Hashim Thaci, Prime Minister of Kosovo.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Kosovo and in particular the EU perspective for Kosovo within the framework of the whole Western Balkans region.

While Kosovo is making progress in many areas, including in the fight against organised crime and corruption, a number of important challenges remain. The High Representative expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s commitment to tackling all these issues and underlined the need for Kosovo to continue and intensify its efforts. In this context the Ms Ashton also referred to the important role of the EULEX mission for Kosovo’s future development of the rule of law.
