In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1778 of September 25, 2007, and a request from the Secretary General of the European Council and EU High Representative for Foreign policy and Security, Mr Medvedev has decided to send a Russian Armed Forces unit of up to 200 servicemen (with 4 Mi-8MT transport helicopters with service arms, ammunition, military equipment and other needed items) for a period of up to 12 months.

The Russian military personnel will transport UN cargo and staff and carry out evacuation, search and rescue, patrol and observation flights in the operations zone.

The Russian Government has received instructions concerning the decree’s implementation.
