On April 9, 2010, around 7 pm in the center of Makhachkala (Dagestan Republic) in the Buinakskaya street famous Dagestan advocate Sergey Kvasov was severely beaten up.
He entered the hairdresser’s and was waiting for his turn when two cars “Lada Priora” with tinted windows reached the building. Four men got out of the car, two of them wore masks. Two men entered the hairdresser’s and started beating Kvasov up with rods or bats. According to the words of Kvasov’s friend journalist Sergey Rasulov, they continued beating Sergey brutally even when he lost consciousness.
As a result, Kvasov was taken to the Central Republic Hospital. He had a fracture of collarbone, of a leg, of scull bones, open cerebral injury, injury of brain and extradural hematoma (the second layer of brain injured). For some hours Kvasov did not recover consciousness. At night the doctors of neurosurgery department of the hospital performed an operation. On April 11, Kvasov war transferred from a resuscitataion department to a general ward. His physical condition remains constantly grave. Kvasov’s colleagues organized donating blood for the injured.
Kvasov was defending the accused in the cases of explosion of a residential house in Buinaksk in September 1999, of a terrorist act in Kaspiisk on May 9, 2002, of the killing of Khasaviurt mayor’s nephew, and the injured in the case of killing of a head of Dagestan governmental broadcasting company Gadzhi Abashilov.
