On May 28th, 2010 at the Small and Medium Enterprise Forum in Chisinau, Moldova, through the EU-funded project “Supporting the implementation of the migration and development component of the EU-Moldova Mobility Partnership,” IOM awarded twenty young entrepreneurs with non-reimbursable in-kind equipment grants valued around 1000 EURO. The young entrepreneurs were participants in the State implemented, National Economic Empowerment of Young People Program (PNAET).

The lack of economic opportunities in Moldova is a primary reason for migration, and the reluctance to return home. Creating a favourable environment for business development, providing trainings in start-ups, enhancing the skills in business management and providing concrete business support are key factors that can open the door for Moldovans to build a secure future at home.

IOM supports the development of small and medium enterprises and encourages the activities of income generation as measures for social integration, economic empowerment (that will enhance the development of rural areas), poverty reduction and the prevention of irregular migration.

The in-kind grant is part of the program for supporting young entrepreneurs from rural areas in the Republic of Moldova.
