Council of the European Union: Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the CFSP, to visit Georgia

Javier SOLANA, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) will visit Georgia on 30 September 2008, on the occasion of the launching of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) operation in Georgia.

Mr SOLANA will meet President Mikhail SAAKASHIVILI, Foreign Minister Eka TKESHELASHVILI, as well as Interior Minister Vano MERABISHVILI and the Secretary of the National Security Council Alexandre LOMAIA.

Mr. SOLANA will have an exchange of view also with opposition and NGO representatives. The visit will provide an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in Georgia and the deployment of the EUMM.

At EUMM headquarters, Mr. SOLANA will meet the Head of the EUMM Ambassador Hansjörg HARBER and the newly deployed EU personnel.

He will travel to the EUMM field office in Gori and visit a camp of internally displaced people.

14.15 Photo opportunity at arrival to EUMM Headquarters, followed by address to EUMM personnel

19:00 (tbc) Joint Press Conference with President SAAKASHIVILI
