Elana - Bulgaria Daily Report - Jan 22, 2008 Jan 22, 2008, 10:59 CET | Broker’s Report | SeeNews MARKET HIGHLIGHTSBSE followed the direction of the international markets and hardly declined. The panic predominated and speculators pushed down the shares of most companies. Investors remained cautious and didn’t support the market. Liquid positions became more attractive as the prices returned on the lower levels and the average P/E decreased to 20 but the negative moods still persisted. Chimimport (CHIM: 11.72; -4.95%) was the most traded position but felt below the threshold of BGN 12.00. CHIM’s subsidiaries also were hit by the selling pressure. Even the speculators’ favorites – infrastructure companies, didn’t stay aside from the overall bias.Stocks opened with huge losses on Tuesday. The market crash of 8% was during several minutes as large sell orders pushed prices of liquid companies to their low limits. Trading was suspended due to technical issues during the first hour but the damage to prices was already done. The main reason for the market crash could b e the margin calls to REPO operations. Speculators are pressured from banks to close their REPOs and are providing huge quantities of shares that cannot be absorbed at current prices from domestic investors. Positions with serious losses include Monbat, Chimimport, Central Cooperative Bank, Eurohold Bulgaria, Industrial Holding Bulgaria, Kaolin, infrastructure companies and more. Those levels provide attractive valuations but the panic is prevailing in all markets and further weakness.

The session started quietly and even there was some enthusiasm in some issues but later during the day massive sale outs started and strong sell pressure pushed the prices heavily down. It seemed that our market was just following the bad news from the rest of the world. The only company that managed to register significant gain was Petrol (PET, BGN 5.64, +12.80%) with more than 43k traded. Among the top losers were Industrial Holding Bulgaria (IHLBL, BGN 8.45, -6.73%), Central Cooperative Bank (CCB, BGN 7.69, -8.12%), Sopharma (SFARM, BGN 7.33, -7.10%) and Synergon Holding (PETHL, BGN 11.24, -8.69%).
