East Europe Foundation and the Telenor Group Create ’Community Centers for Senior Citizens’ in Poltava and Sumy Oblasts
Three community centers opened in Sumy and Poltava oblasts, giving a warm reception to local elderly citizens, who will use these venues to engage in pastimes, gather to chat with others, and develop hobbies in areas such as photography and personal computers. They will be also provided with social services and medical advice. This year East Europe Foundation in cooperation with the Telenor Group in Ukraine provided UAH 296,497 to create a community center in Pyryatyn (Poltava oblast), Nedryhayliv and Lypova Dolyna (Sumy oblast). Last year East Europe Foundation and the Telenor Group launched three similar centers for seniors in Poltava, Dykanka and Kremenchuk (Poltava oblast). This initiative was supported by the Poltava Oblast Administration Department of Labor and Social Protection. This year the program was expanded to include Sumy oblast owing to the active support of the Regional Department of Labor and Social Protection. Projects funded within the "Community Centers for Elderly Citizens" initiative are supported by the telecommunication company Telenor Group and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Fourth Annual International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility to be Held in Kyiv
On April 28, Ukrainian business magazine Expert Ukraine will host the fourth annual international conference entitled "Corporate Social Responsibility: Searching for a national model". The conference will gather representatives from among international and Ukrainian businesses, leading Ukrainian and global experts, Ukrainian ministries and state agencies, local and international NGOs, the media and other stakeholders to discuss challenges and current trends of CSR development in Ukraine and abroad. Competition for Best Energy Efficiency Demonstration Project in Buildings "EasySave 2010" within the 1st European-Ukrainian Energy Day
As part of the First European-Ukrainian Energy Day, the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency, East Europe Foundation (EEF), the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), Modul Invest, Delta Projektconsult Ukraine TOV and EcothermoEngineering Ltd. have announced a competition among Ukrainian private companies on improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption in buildings. The main goal of the competition is to support three winners in the implementation of their energy efficiency and reduction of energy consumption projects in the country. The competition organizers will support the three winning projects by helping them conduct an energy audit on a targeted facility, and assist each company in developing a business plan and financial estimates based on technical data and the energy audits. Eligible projects will be considered by the NEFCO for financing (conditions: interest rate - 6% p.a., NEFCO financial contribution would not exceed 90% of project total costs). The organizers invite all private Ukrainian companies, target building owners, representatives of target companies or other relevant parties to submit project proposals for the competition by May 10, 2010.
